Our recommendations for Montenegro
You’ve never heard of Montenegro before? Don’t worry! Most of the people didn’t. It is a small country, located between Croatia and Albania. But as small as it is, it has a lot to show! In Montenegro you can experience the most beautiful hiking routes, mountains, canyons and bays.
In this guide we show you, why you should visit Montenegro and what places are the most beautiful here!
Check out those locations:
Herceg Novi:
Small town at the beach near the Croatian border. You can find some beachclubs here and good restaurants. It has a beautiful promenade that you can walk for miles. But there are only rock beaches here! Not touristy at all when you come in June/July. There is also some boat rentals with skippers – highly recommend a day tour to the blue bay and different beaches!

Kotor:
Beautiful old town below some scenic mountains. It’s located in a bay. You can come here by ferry or just drive the long and scenic route around the bay.
Here are sometimes a lot of tourists because of the cruise ships that stop there. You can wander the small streets in town or walk all the stairs up to the castle.

Budva:
You should come here for the nightlife! A lot of international tourists ready for some party!
Tara Canyon:
Second-largest Canyon in the world! Between the green mountains flows a beautiful turquoise river. The bridge over the canyon allows a breathtaking view. You can pass it by foot or by car. There are a lot of attractions like Zip lining or White Water Rafting.

Monastery of Ostrog:
Beautiful monastery build in the mountains
Beaches:
Montenegro is mostly covered in rocky beaches but here are a few sandy beaches:
- Plavi Horizonti Beach (near Kotor)
- Trsteno Beach
- Jaz Beach

Activities:
You can do a lot of things when visiting Montenegro. At Tara Canyon you can do some ziplining over the canyon or some white water rafting. At Lovcen National Park you will find some badass hiking routes. In Herceg Novi you can rent a boat + skipper and explore some lonely beaches.

Acommodation:
Try to rent a AirBnB in a less touristy place like Herceg Novi and you can stay there for really cheap, especially if you go Off-Season (we came in June and got an AirBnB with pool + badass view)!

Public Transportation:
Unfortunately, public transportation is not very common in Montenegro. We booked a rental car, which gave us the freedom to travel around the country without problems. But there are also no highways and a lot of serpentines, so it takes you a while to drive from point A to point B.
